DCLM Daily Manna September 24, 2016 by Pastor Kumuyi - Wait For The Appropriate Time

Topic: Wait For The Appropriate Time [September 24, 2016]

Text: Luke 7:1-10

Key Verse: "And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, be- seeching him that he would come and heal his servant" (Luke 7:3).

Throughout His earthly ministry, Christ never advertised Himself or His works. He believed His works would speak for Him and distinguish Him from other false prophets. After He healed the sick, opened blind eyes, made the dumb to speak, He sometimes warn the beneficiaries never to tell anyone. When He was challenged by the tempter, the devil, to turn stone into bread or to jump from a high temple, He could have simply done all that to prove His limitless power, but He did not need to exalt Himself.

In our passage today, His brethren, those who knew Him from birth, who had followed His lifestyle and the great works He had done since childhood, were amazed that He did not advertise Himself. They suggested to Him to tell the world who He was. They knew the lifestyle of the Jews and how they found joy in publicising even their minutest achievement, not to glorify God, but to show their greatness. But Jesus told His disciples to keep calm as His time had not yet come. Jesus knew that when it is time, the world would know about Him and His works; and there's no need for cheap advertisement! Believers are called to a life of humility and simplicity; whatever God has deposited in the life of a believer must be manifested someday.

It is therefore, unnecessary for people to run before God and try to present themselves to the world when it is not yet time. Had Jesus made His Messiahship open to the world, He would not have fulfilled His ministry on earth as His life would, probably, have been terminated long before the time. Those who believe they have the call of God must seek His grace to be humble and wait for the appropriate time.

Thought for the day: They that wait on God shall not make haste.
