DCLM Daily Manna December 9, 2016 by Pastor Kumuyi – Remember His Goodness

Topic: Remember His Goodness [December 9, 2016]

Text: Psalm 78:10-20

Key Verse: "They kept not the covenant of God, and refused to walk in his law; And forgat his works, and his wonders that he had shewed them" (Psalm 78:10, 11).

"Some of us are like people who, when they get better of their sicknesses, grudge the doctor's bill. We forget the mercies as soon as they are past, because we only enjoyed the sensuous sweetness of them while it tickled our palate; and forgot, in the enjoyment of them, of whose love it was that they spoke to us. Sorrows and joys, bring them all in your thanksgivings, and forget not the works of God" - A.

Maclaren D.D. Ephraim forgot the many mighty works and mercies of the Lord! These same wonders made the Canaanites quiver and fear the God of Israel and the Israel of God. The miraculous plagues that was brought on Pharaoh and his subjects; the dividing of the Red Sea, which when the armies of Egypt assayed to do were all drowned; leading them with a pillar of cloud by day and pillar of fire by night through the forty years of wilderness wanderings; providing manna and water to feed the multitude with no feeble one among them. These were all the manifest goodness and lovingkindness of God. Meanwhile, Ephraim did not keep the covenant of God. Their proud hearts refused to walk in His way, finding more pleasure in the ways of the heathen surrounding them. They despised the word, the will and the way of God. No wonder they soon forgot the works and wonders of God.

The result of forgetting what we should remember and keep remembering in our journey with God will always compromise our relationship with Him and reduce us into carnal believers who only relate with God for what we can derive from Him. When the going gets tough, we complain, murmur and threaten to return to old and familiar ways. God's faithfulness and goodness must spur us into greater trust and confidence in Him, avoiding meticulously the opportunistic bent of Ephraim.

Thought for the day: Forgetting God's kind deeds makes a Christian a sour grape.
