#EaglesDevotional - CONSEQUENCES OF REBELLION
“For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry (or an idol worshiper). Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king.” (1 Samuel 15:23)
It amazes me that rebellious people do not consider what their rebellion could cause them and those around them. They do not think of the consequences of their rebellion. Sometimes, it is because they think their lives revolve around them only.
Did you know that in addition to worshipping idols, which is by itself rebellion, another form of idol worship is self-worship? Self-worship is rebellion against God. Have you heard people say things like. “That is the way we are in our family. We have strong head” (meaning we are stubborn or that is the way we do things)? Rebellion is an ungodly trait that does no one no good. If you are rebellious, you are an incorrigible worshipper of yourself. Nobody can correct you. When you are asked to sit down, you stand up. You do the opposite of everything you are asked to do. You flout instructions with seeming impunity because you do not respect anybody.
The kingdom was taken from Saul because of rebellion. The Prophet Samuel was a man representing God. He spoke God's mind to Saul but Saul disobeyed him. The instruction was: “Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.” (1 Samuel 15:3)
Saul smote the Amalakites as instructed but “spared Agag the King and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings and the lambs, and all that was good ….” (1 Samuel 15:9)
You are a great person. Don’t let rebellion unmake you.
WORDS OF WISDOM: Obedience is better than sacrifice.
PRAYER/CONFESSION: I bind every spirit of rebellion and disobedience. Go out of my life in Jesus name.
